it's a new start.
I saw her when she came into the store. She had bright orange hair, natural with a hint of something more, rusty colored. That's why I noticed. Normally the people that came in here had black hair with a bright color thrown in, if there was any bright color. She knew what she wanted too. Most people looked around and lingered over a few books before choosing their next project. "Confessions of a Young Wife." Not the type of book people normally know that they want, but that is just my experience. She walked right up to me with it in her hand and put it on the faded green counter in front of me. Her bangs nearly covered both of her eyes and her lips were painted a red almost as bright as the orange of her hair.
"Will this be all for you today?" Her hand went into her pocket and pulled out a small leather wallet. From this came a twenty dollar bill.
"Yes this is all that I want. Actually, do you have any gum? My breath reaks of dead cow covered in onions and garlic," she looked my in the eye and then down around the register.
"I have it behind the counter. Kids keep coming in and stealing it. We're a little short staffed." In fact, right at that moment I was the only one working the entire store. Not that it was that large of a place, just a little shop in the village. Not much different from some of the other shops, except we let people stay to read.
"Well I'll take Juicy Fruit if you have it." I handed her pack of it and then took the book from the counter.
"This is quite a book. I've read it once. Not much of a storyline, not much dialogue. I'm sure you know what it is though." She smiled at me, like I was some kind of child that had asked her for a boost to the water fountain.
"Oh I am familiar with what it is yes. I told my friend that I would find him a special surprise. He doesn't much like to read, but I think that this might change his mind a little," she winked. I liked her.
